I have had many interesting experiences recently with my 2
nd graders. It is a common habit of students of any age to want to be fast at reading, therefore skipping most, or all, of the words. This especially happens in my more advanced reading groups and I have to constantly make them reread a section. Well, I approached a certain student with this issue and he replied, "I am not human, I am a shape shifter so I can read fast." (It is sometimes hard to be an authoritative figure when things like this happen and you want to laugh your head off...) so I told him he was a human child and he needed to reread the section at which he replied, "I am a shape shifter and I was only sent to this world to learn about human life." So be careful, there are shape shifters among us :)
